How to choose your wedding gown? Five easy steps to guide you.

There are a few simple steps to follow when choosing your gown. It can be overwhelming, yet exciting looking through the magazines, friends sending photos of dresses they think you should wear, scanning the websites, and researching the hundreds of designers. There are five simple guidelines for finding your dream dress.

1. Set your Date and Venue. The time of year and the place you have the wedding can guide you with your overall style and look of the wedding. Whether a winter wonderland at the Taj, or a destination wedding in Cape Cod, your dress needs to fit the occasion. 
2. Have a Budget.  The dress, accessories, and alterations can all add up so know what your comfortable spending, and don't be afraid to let your consultant know. If your unsure ask, what would a veil cost, shoes, any other accessories and of course alterations. All dresses need alterations hem, bustle, and maybe a take in at the bust, waist or hip. 
3. Know your Silhouette and Style that looks best.  If you know you prefer strapless, or you need a v-neck, maybe you like a natural waist versus a dropped waist. If your pear shaped embellish on the top and choose an Aline dress. An apple shape a sweetheart neckline to draw the eye up and an empire waist. Hourglass a fit and flare, cinch at the waist. A rectangular shape, choose something that is curvy, or a bias cut dress. Every shape has its assets, don't be afraid to show them off!
4. When your ready to make the appointment, chose one or two people who know you best. Its easy to invite the entire bridal party, but don't. This is your day, and as overwhelming as it can be having a group with you can make it challenging. Everyone like to pull a dress, everyone has an opinion. You know what you want, you know what you like, too many people can confuse that decision. Bring the one or two people who are honest, who know you and will be supportive. Meet up with the girls after for dinner!
5. HAVE FUN! This is an exciting time, take a breath and enjoy. Have fun choosing your dress, you want to look back and think I love it just as much as the day I wore it.

The Bridal Event at the Mall at Chestnut Hill!

Sunday, September 14th marked the 7th Annual Bridal Event at the Mall at Chestnut Hill. L’elite Boston and Musette Bridal—Boston’s award-winning boutiques and the source to turn to for the finest designer wedding and special occasion attire—were sponsors of the bridal fete.!
It was a brilliant Sunday in New England, when most would be outside savoring the final days of summer, but surprisingly, the Mall at Chestnut Hill was packed with brides-to-be, mothers of the brides, bridesmaids, and all sorts of fashion forward trendsetters dying to get the first glimpse of “what’s hot” on the wedding scene today. Complete with a designer runway, trade show booths, DJ, A-list photographers and videographer, and Kathy Benharris, fashion show producer and backstage management goddess, the event was certain to be a crowd-pleaser. And it was.!
As seats quickly filled, people lined the the upper level for a crow’s nest view, and every eye intently studied the lovely models donning iconic designer gowns from industry masterminds such as Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrara, Oscar de la Renta, Amsale, Ines Di Santo, and more. From romantic elegance, to goddess and mermaid styles, each gown was a unique work of art—featuring embellishments comprising hand- crocheted lace, Swarovski-studded buttons, ornate beaded bodices and sequined silks —eye candy at its finest, for both special occasion wear and bridal gowns.!

As the models sashayed their way down the runway, they paused, providing enough time for their attire to be fully examined by attentive on-lookers. Each model exuded her own personality and “attitude” for the enjoyment of the audience. Gleaming smiles replaced dull, blank stares expected of runway models. To be queen for a day is a bride’s entitlement, so why not reflect that joy during a bridal event?

                 “Stunning. Glamorous. Fun!"!

These were the superlatives that resonated among the crowd, and the finale was the icing on the cake: each model waltzed down the runway cradling a delicate handful of flower petals. They encircled the “bride,” who tossed her bouquet into the audience, accompanied by the flurry of flower petals that simultaneously filled the air like confetti. A sweet and entertaining surprise embraced by the applauding crowd.

Neckline News

We’ve all seen this a million times: Kate Middleton’s custom bridal gown designed by Sarah Burton, featuring hand-made Irish and French lace, ivory silk gazar and 58 organza covered buttons.  But no one remembers those details.  Kate has been credited with bringing sleeves back into bridal fashion.  But let me tell you, our brides beg to differ! 

More and more, we have brides coming through our doors with heavy opposition to strapless gowns.  They want a strap, a cap sleeve, a one shoulder… And every girl who wants sleeves insists that it has NOTHING to do with Princess Kate.

Trends tend to come full circle.  Strapless dresses really only came into fashion in the early 2000s.  Even in the 90s, girls we’re doing a lot of off-the-shoulder, cap sleeves, and even a lot of long sleeves.  Now that we are into the 2010s, more girls are asking for a strap, sleeve, or something to cover their shoulders.  This trend was evident at Bridal Week back in April…

Many designers got into the illusion neckline trend and created some beautiful high neckline dresses.

We like this look because it is elegant, but still not too covered.  You're still showing a little skin under that lace.  It brings the gowns to something a little more traditional, but still young and fashion-forward.

V-necks have always been a good look for a lot of girls.

A v-neck does a nice job of framing one's collar bones.  It's something to look into if you have a beautiful, and even broad but toned shoulders.  They're also worry-free (Although, we are always remind our brides not to rule out strapless for this reason.  With good alterations, that dress is not going anywhere!) and comfortable!

A few designers included one-shoulders in their collections.  We've had mixed feelings about the one shoulder.  While it's super trendy and can be very flattering (again, this is great if you have pretty collar bones), some brides just aren't catching on.

Finally, and of course, there are a few full sleeve gowns.  This one by Monique Lhuillier is stunning!!!

It's classic, elegant, and traditional.  We're wondering, though, is the full sleeve look too traditional, is it too trendy or is it falling somewhere in the middle?

Now don't get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with strapless dresses.  In fact, we feel that this time, the designers are catching up with the demands of the brides for once.  Our heads are usually spinning wondering, "Why would they EVER try to sell that?!"  Now we have, "Why won't they give us more dresses with sleeves?!"  Congratulations, Brides!  You've dictated the trend this time around.  Keep up the good work!
